XIPS for the MAR IP Scanner
To start the program type XIPS at the VMS prompt:
$ xips
You'll see something like this...
Note the information regarding available disk space!
You now have to decide whether you want to scan the whole plate (300 mm) or
only the inner 180 mm [default]. The 180 mm files contain 1200 x
1200 pixels and occupy 2.9 MB each. The 300 mm files contain 2000 x 2000
pixels and occupy 8 MB each.
Next you will see this window on the lower right:
Click the COLLECT button to continue...
BYPASS recommended...
in which case you'll have to
deal with this...
Now you'll get two more windows, one is the STATUS window which is
updated every second or so:
The other (BIG one) is the actual image window - you can iconize it
until you get your first image by clicking the
small button - N.B.: finding the icon later on can be a problem!
Now it's time to get ready for your
first exposure, so go ahead and hit the button...
Once you have setup distance, exposure time, filename etc., check the
ion chamber for counts. Let the beam
stabilize for 30 seconds after opening shutter the hutch shutters.
Erase the plate if the scanner has been idle for more than half-an-hour.
Now hit to begin data collection.
When you have the first image, you can proceed to
indexing with HKL/Denzo.
